Say Goodbye to The Yamaha R1 Superbike, Production Will Stop in 2025

DRF.com – News is circulating that the Yamaha R1 superbike will be discontinued due to increasingly strict Euro5+ emission standards in Europe. It is very likely that the R1 will be like its younger brother, the Yamaha R6, which has not been around since 2020, only having a racing version.

Stop Production in 2025?

A media outlet revealed that the Yamaha YZF-R1 will stop production in 2025. This is not the first time this has happened, previously the R6 also stopped production in mid-2019 and was no longer sold on December 31 2019 in Europe. However, in several countries it is still sold where emission regulations are not too strict.

Another Japanese model, namely the Suzuki GSX-R1000, will also be discontinued in 2025 even though this sports motorbike has received updates.

Decline in Sales of Yamaha Superbikes

Another reason from the manufacturer is because of the surprising decline in sales of the superbike in the European market. According to data, the superbikes that are experiencing a decline are those that still use old engine technology.

Take the example of a sports motorbike that uses modern engine technology from the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, which will later become the only Japanese superbike in Europe, now controlling sales of 12.3 percent. There is also the Ducati Panigale V4 and BMW S1000RR, sales of which in the third quarter of 2023 will also increase by 20 percent.

Yamaha R1M

Yes… Yamaha’s main problem is the new Euro5+ emissions standards and the manufacturer has confirmed that there will no longer be any R1 and R1M on the European market. Sales will stop after December 31 2025, it is possible that they have other plans for this problem. Maybe by launching a smaller model, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
